Featured Artist Friday: Deborah Weir
“I started out as a costume designer, I had a career as a linguist for 34 years, but never stopped making art. Since I retired in 2006, I’ve gotten a boost of creative energy. I love the process of making, but my work is always idea driven. I work in series pursuing themes of importance to me: cave paintings (early mark making), pomegranates (fecundity), the detritus of the Industrial Revolution, the lack of usable water on our planet and the fierce winds exacerbated by the extreme weather conditions we now face. The objective of my artwork is to entice the viewer by means of visual seduction. These textile artworks are hand-dyed, painted and printed by the artist and have hand stitched surfaces. They are all from the Fierce Winds series except Ghost Circles which references the fleeting nature of life.”
