  • Exit Through the Gift Shop
    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.
  • The Impressionists

  • The Impressionists: The Other French Revolution
The Impressionists: The Other French Revolution

“LIVE WITH ART”
Northern Westchester Artists Guild
Friday, November 6th - 6 to 7pm | Martin Stankiewicz Gallery
5 North Washington Street, Tarrytown (Back of Main St. pizza building)
Refreshments will be served at 5:30 pm

Art is not furniture—nor should it be. Works of art are living, breathing creations that speak to us. Art defines personalities, moods, family dynamics, tastes, sensibilities, and issues. If we look around our own back yards—in our own communities—there’s plenty of fantastic art to be had, by amazingly talented local artists and artisans! So why deny ourselves the pleasure and enlightenment that comes when we Live with Art?

We change over time and so does art. This gallery talk will focus on the reciprocal dialogue between art and people—pointing out the ways in which art elevates our lives, reflects our spirits, and soothes our souls.

Referring to works included in the Art in Tarrytown exhibit, teaching artist and art historian Jill Kiefer will discuss the potential of art to enrich lives—and will point out some of the ways to select art—collect it—present it—rotate it—and support it. Many of the masterworks in museums today were acquired when their creators were little-known, local artists themselves—seeking an audience to appreciate their voices. This event will help you to hear the creative voices in your communities—and listen to their messages. Join us to gain a better understanding of what it means to Live with Art.
