The Resurrection

Marco Basaiti - Resurrection of Christ - 1520 - Oil on canvas, 140 x 100 cm - Accademia Carrara, Bergamo (click photo for larger image)The composition of this small altarpiece, probably originating in a Venetian church, is derived from a Giovanni Bellini painting of the same subject. Marco Basaiti (1496-1530) was an Italian painter of Albanian origin. His paintings echo the styles of Antonello da Messina and Giovanni Bellini, and also reveal the influence of Giorgione's work. Basaiti was very much an artist of the fifteenth century.
