Howard Pyle: The Golden Age of Illustration
The Golden Age of Illustration was a period of unprecedented excellence in book and magazine illustration, that ran from the 1880s to the 1920s. The age developed from advances in technology that enabled the accurate and inexpensive reproduction of art. Such advances were quite timely--because the new graphic art was in great demand by the public of the day. The essential “father” of the age was American artist Howard Pyle (1853-1911), who was an American illustrator and author with a focus primarily on works for young people.
