  • Exit Through the Gift Shop
    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.

Geological Echo: La Pietà

Salvador Dali - Geological Echo. La Pietà - 1982 - Oil on canvas, 100 x 100 cm. (39.4 x 39.4 in) Teatre-Museu Dali, BarcelonaMichelangelo - Pietà - 1498-1499 - Marble - 174 cm × 195 cm (68.5 in × 76.8 in) - St. Peter’s Basilica, VaticanSurrealist Salvador Dali (1904-1989) added his own Surrealist touch to the perfected architectural perspectives achieved in Renaissance art. He tried his hand at studies of all of Rome's most-lauded landmarks. In Dali’s study of Michelangelo's Pietà (1982), the Virgin's breasts become windows into a serene, blue green seascape. Dalí's version (like Michelangelo’s masterpiece) inspires emotion in the viewer, as if one is seeing paradise through divine love. But of course, let us not forget the amazing work of Michelangelo that inspired this effort. Dali was around 78 when he completed his treatment. Michelangelo was 23 when he was working on his Pietà.
