Henri-Edmond Cross: An Influential Neo-Impressionist
Henri-Edmond Cross (1856-1910) was a French pointillist painter and printmaker, who contributed a great deal to the Neo-Impressionist movement. The founder of that movement was Georges Seurat, and his goal was to make Impressionism precise in form--and more scientific in approach. Seurat was not the only Neo-Impressionist, however. The work of Henri-Edmond Cross heavily influenced Fauvism, considered to be the first of the Modern movements, and had a strong impact on Henri Matisse.
