  • Exit Through the Gift Shop
    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.

Featured Artist Friday: Gail Julien

Gail Julien"I attended Coronet of California Modeling School.  Upon graduation, I went on to study at American Beauty Finishing School in Detroit, MI.

"I have been involved in fashion and creative pursuits from an early age, including modeling and acting. I have performed on the stage, in movies and on television.  More hands on to the creative process I built sets, directed plays and became a makeup artist. I even opened my own modeling school, talent agency and production service and became a published author.

Gail Julien - Ominous - Acrylics on canvas - 12 x 16 in. (click photo for larger image)"Eventually I moved into the corporate world of aviation.  Again, the creative process was my favorite part, including event planning and editor/ writer for The Women in Corporate Aviation Newsletter.

"I currently appear in: Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who of American Women and The World’s Who’s Who of Women.

Gail Julien - Rosie - Watercolor pencils on paper - 8 1/2 x 11 in. (click photo for larger image)"I’ve always loved the creative process in every venue.  Jill Kiefer has given me the courage and tools to pursue my heart’s desire -ART!

"Every medium is an adventure and I combine drawing, painting, and other mediums. Much of the work I am currently doing is creating something that will leap off the canvas and show the viewer something unexpected."

Gail - the profiles really caught my eye. Like music, there's as much said in the spaces as in the lines! As always, love your work!

These are great! Beauty and light , Ive seen a picture of the tree before this ,and i think it was more obvious the bird was an actual 'miniature' with feathers 'and all' standing off the canvas! The storm and the light , the yin and yang of the tree at the center of it all. It's captivating. The bird need only flit easily to a very near by branch to find the light. And so often is life!! This can be a message from spirit to all who can envision it! Thank You! Gigi

Gail, I am so happy to be able to see some of your artistic creations! I do hope to see more, soon! Gigi put my thoughts on the first piece into words beautifully already, but I would like to comment on the last two. With clean, elegant lines, pops of color, and perfectly chosen additions, you've expressed so much about these women. Just from viewing these pieces, I feel as though I know a bit about them and their personalities. Very well done, and I look forward to seeing more!

Gail - Ominous - Acrylics on canvas - is my absolute favorite! It definately captures the essence of dark and light and the merging of the two. I could look at this work for hours and find so many messages! Ronda Peterson
