  • Exit Through the Gift Shop
    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.

Featured Artist Friday: Josef-Peter Roemer

Josef-Peter Roemer - Self - Oil on Canvas Panel - 18" x 14" - Self Portrait painted using a hand held mirror, and window for lighting, completed sketch in 1/ 1/2 hrs.“I don't have any great philosophical statement to make about why I create my art, I paint what I like and make a comment on that in my interpretation of the subject matter at the time of importance to me. The majority of my work is figurative in a storytelling fashion.

Josef-Peter Roemer - San Francisco Street Entertainers - Oil on Linen mounted on Masonite Panel - 101.6 cm x 101.6 cm - $1600 - Figurative oil painting on linen mounted on Masonite panel of Street musicians and entertainers of San Francisco California"I prefer to paint narrative themes not necessarily showing how people think they are, but how I see them. At times I include political themes in a Satire fashion that I feel are important to me. The images on my canvas usually do not show how the majority of society would like to be portrayed.

Past, Present and Future - Oil on Linen - 194 cm x 230 cm - The painting is about the Surreal Moment of Quantum Physics Theory, showing an event of the past, present and Future all happen simultaneously, the observer of the painting is the Present, the Newspaper in the painting shows the Past and the little girl and surroundings is what may be the future."The colors, the textures, and the form all add to the beauty of the painting. I think a good painting makes people think, or conveys a particular feeling or emotion. It's a visual comment that should incite the art of conversation.

"My artistic comments come by way of past memories, socially motivated events and dreams. The motivation is based primarily on what intrigues me at that particular moment in time.”
