  • Exit Through the Gift Shop
    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.

Featured Artist Friday: Melissa Fu-Dominguez

Melissa Fu-Dominguez"As an avid traveler and museum visitor, Melissa Fu-Dominguez has always admired still life paintings and was particularly struck by the oeuvre of Luis Melendez whose works depict fruits and vegetables with such exquisite details that they are like  high-definition of the eighteenth century.  Four years ago Melissa decided to take her first art class with John Trees at Pasadena Extension in hopes of finding some latent artistic talent in herself.  Later, with another art instructor, she was introduced to acrylic and oil.  She was hooked after her first few strokes in oil painting.  Melissa's favorite subjects are found in the kitchen, such as bowls, citrus, and onions.  When not painting, Melissa is teaching high school English, tango dancing, or trying new recipes.  With encouragement from Jill Kiefer and inspiration from students in Dr. Kiefer's class, Melissa hopes to continue her studies in art and explore other media."
