  • Exit Through the Gift Shop
    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.

Did You Know?

Jackson Pollock had a pretty rough go of it as a teenager. He didn't fit in at his Los Angeles school, where he apparently wore unusual clothes and grew out his hair. He was expelled several times for getting in trouble with the law. He wrote to his brother, telling him that, “…this so called happy part of one’s life—youth—to me is a bit of damnable hell.”

Did You Know?

The most expensive painting that ever sold in the history of art is Jackson Pollock's "No. 5, 1948". It sold in a private sale in 2006 for a staggering 140 million dollars, exceeding the sale of Gustav Klimt's 1907 "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I" by around 5 million dollars. Although Pollock enjoyed recognition during his life, he never made much money with his art. And, recognition doesn’t put food on the table.
