    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.

Painting Bought for $9.99 at Goodwill Valued at $15K

Ilya Bolotowsky, “Black Diamond” - Screenprint - 1978, (click photo for larger image)Photo of the ArtistA North Carolina woman recently bought two canvases, for under $10, that she just happened to notice at a Goodwill store. Her idea was to paint over them. One of them turned out to be a work by Ilya Bolotowsky (1907-1981) a leading abstract artist in the early years of the 20th century. You can read the story here:   This is just a reminder that there are still treasures out there--in the likeliest of places! The former owners of the painting had tried to sell it at a yard sale--with no luck--so they donated it. They’ve been very gracious to the new owner--and have congratulated her on the purchase. That’s a rare response in today’s world.
