Lucas Cranach the Elder - “Madonna Under the Fir Tree” - 1510 - Oil on panel (click photo for larger image)Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553) was a leading painter of Saxony, and one of the most important and influential artists of the 16th-century.

His painting entitled Madonna Under the Fir Tree, “copied and stolen by a German priest, makes its way back to Wroclaw after 70 years.”
