  • Exit Through the Gift Shop
    Exit Through the Gift Shop
When British stencil artist Banksy traveled to Los Angeles to work, he came across obscure French filmmaker Thierry Guetta and his badly organized collection of videotapes involving the activities of graffiti artists. Inspired, Banksy assembled them with new footage to create this talked-about documentary, and the result is a mind-boggling and odd film (so strange as to be thought a hoax by some) about outsider artists and the definition of art itself.

Feature Artist Friday: Alex Rudee

Alex Rudee“Since I was a kid, I have used much of my free time to pursue two of my favorite pastimes. The first is artistic experimentation, whether it be jazz music, photography, documentary filmmaking or oil painting. The second is exploring nature.

"My dedication to these dual pursuits is as strong now as it ever was. My artistic passion has taken me to New York and Europe to play jazz, and to Joshua Tree National Park to capture a story of environmental justice on film. My love of nature has taken me all the way to Botswana, where I interned with the Department of Wildlife and embarked on photo safaris through the African bush.

"My connections to art and nature have never really been separate pursuits at all. I can’t imagine art without nature as subject or nature without the capacity to immortalize it as art. With my art, I strive to bring a bit of nature in all its glory into our day-to-day lives, and to inspire us to go beyond our urban routines to explore the rich natural wonders that await us.”
